Take online payments with Stripe

Customers can pay an invoice by card from the emailed invoice page once your workspace is connected to Stripe and online payments are switched on. The money goes to your own Stripe account, and Zaras records the payment against the invoice automatically.

Open Settings → Online payments on the web; in the Zaras app it is Online Payments. The page needs Manage financial settings, which owners and admins hold by default; anyone else should ask an owner or admin to grant it to their role.

Connect your Stripe account

The first card reads Connect with Stripe: Set up a Stripe account to start accepting online payments. You’ll be redirected to Stripe to complete the setup. Press Connect Stripe Account; Stripe collects its own identity and bank details, then returns you to Zaras. If you leave part-way, the card reads Stripe Setup incomplete and Continue setup resumes.

Read the status

When the account is live the card reads Stripe Connected with Ready to accept card payments. Zaras checks the connection with Stripe rather than assuming it, so two warnings are possible:

• Card payments are not yet active on your Stripe account. — Stripe still needs something from you. Finish it in your Stripe dashboard, then Check again; Advanced details lists what Stripe reported outstanding.
• We couldn’t fully verify your Stripe connection. — the check itself failed; Try verification again.

In the Zaras app the same check is Sync Status, and the connected state reads Stripe connected.

Switch payments on

• Accept online payments — Customers will see a pay now button on eligible invoices in the customer portal. Locked until Stripe reports card payments active. Turning it on asks Enable online payments?; turning it off asks Disable online payments? and warns Customers will no longer see the pay now button on invoices. Payments already in progress will still complete.
• Auto-send payment receipts — Customers receive a receipt email immediately after a successful online payment. It needs the first setting on: Turn on Accept online payments first.

What the customer sees

The Customer preview on this page (View customer preview in the Zaras app) shows the emailed invoice page as the customer gets it: Invoice total, Paid to date and Balance due, a Payment amount they can lower for a part payment, a pay button carrying the amount, and Secure encrypted payment. With receipts on it adds Receipt email sent automatically. With payments off the customer can still read the invoice: Customers can view this invoice, but there is no payment button.

A successful online payment lands in the invoice's payment ledger like any other and moves the invoice to Partially paid or Paid on its own. Only an Open or Partially paid invoice with a balance shows the pay button.
